The good, the bad, the ugly, the parts list!

So here's the good, the bad and the ugly breakout. I will get pics tomorrow when we head to the mechanic's and talk with them about the truck.

The Good

  • Only 4 previous owners
    • average of 3300 miles per year.
    • Last 3 owners it was less than 1k miles per year
  • New Tires
    • Kumkho Solus TA11
    • Less than 100 miles
  • Recently refreshed paint
    • a few chips to repair
    • a run or two
    • serviceable and clean
  • Interior isn't trashed
  • Clean, unblemished glass, all around
  • Suspension seems solid

The Bad

  • Broken catch on glove box
    • Glovebox plastic where handle bolts in is broken
  • Seats need a refresh
    • Cloth is clean and serviceable
    • Cushion or springs need to be replaced
  • Carpet needs to be replaced
  • Headlights are super cloudy
  • Tail light bezels are cracked
  • Rear bumper is rusty and bent
    • Step bumper hitch hole stretched, cracked, and rusted
  • A few missing odds and ends, mostly cosmetic
  • Needs a full exhaust (AZ rust on stock steel pipes)
  • The wheels appear to be pretty dinged up
    • Looks like someone lost control of an impact wrench on them
    • There's nicks on the lips of the rims

The Ugly

  • Super hard brake pedal
    • You basically need to stand on the brake pedal to get it to stop
    • Potentially brake booster or lack of vacuum
  • Engine performance is horrendous
    • Runs really rough
    • No power
    • Wants to stall
    • Catalytic converter was cut off, trying to address the engine performance
  • Half assed stereo install
    • Weird "plumbers tape" rigged brackets
    • After market head unit just floats there
    • Over shoulder aftermarket, tweeter holes look like they are hacked out of the interior trim and have no speakers in them

The Parts List

Interior:

Stereo Mounting Kit:
We aren't sure if we are going to stick with the current single DIN radio, or upgrade to a double DIN head unit that incorporates some of the more modern features.
Stereo Option:
Carpet:
Speaker Holes which we will cover with some speaker covers or cut some thick plastic to patch the holes:
Glove Box Repair
Latch $11
Seat Refurb:
Farming this out to A&J Auto Trim or B's Kustom Kreations

And some fun stuff for the kid. She loves Pokemon, so why not get some cool Pikachu floor mats

Exterior:

These are mostly cosmetic updates, but will be a good father/daughter bonding experience.

We are missing the antenna mast. Was probably removed when it was painted and never put back on.
Being in Missouri, we don't want stuff bouncing up and chipping the paint/undercoat, so mudflaps!
The front hood facia has a crack in it, and we want to avoid getting rock chips in the windshield, so this will protect windshield and cover that crack nicely
Replacement headlight and tail light bezels. Yeah, we could do stock, and I found cheaper on Amazon, but haven't had a ton of luck with quality of parts like this from Amazon.
Trifold Tonneau, since we put one on my truck, my wife wants them on all of our trucks. We'll have to ditch the plastic tub style bed liner because it's an over the rail style. If we do that, we might install bed rail caps:
Sides $65

We might use a spray in bedliner, if the paint is scuffed really bad, but we won't see that until the bedliner tub is removed.

And again, because she loves Pokemon, and the truck is sans badging, we are going to do something like this.

We'll need 2 of them so we have 2 Pokeballs and then we can put the other badging on the doors or back of the front quarters.

And finally, if I can convince the wife of it:
Blacked out rims - American Racing AR172 Baja Black Wheels
$560 plus tire mounting and balancing. Sure, these are 15" rims, but we don't want to impact ride comfort to put bigger wheels on.
Thanks to a wheel visualizer, we can see that this will look pretty good.

General Mechanical Work:

The engine performance and brakes issue are being sorted by Lehmann Automotive. They handle all of  my mechanical work, and have not let me down so far. The truck is with them now.

One thing I might do a kit on, instead of letting Lehmann grab the parts for us, is doing a cat back dual exhaust. Found a nice cat back dual kit from a seller on eBay with over 100K positive feedback. It's $270, with a Flowmaster Super 44 muffler on it.

I will update this tomorrow with pictures of the truck as it sits now.
